Magellan 1440 GPS Roadside. . . . . . . . . Nothing functioned . . . . . Power cable was defective and replaced. Then, the main GPS Unit did not function. It to, was replaced. But I had to pay the shoipping of the unit to their repair/replacement facility. Sorry, but why are all the ’service facility employee’s from India. Langage is sometimes difficult to understand, but they were very very polite. Lots of time to finally get an operational GPS Unit.

Unit would display same error message after entering location. Sent to magellan. Can back with same problem. Even worse. I purchase a Gamin 255W & love it.

We had a Garmin stolen and replace it with the Magellen Roadmate 1440 due to some discounts from AAA.
It is horrible! The main problem is that, if you have moved at all since the last time you shut it off, it takes 3-7 minutes (I’ve timed it) to find a new signal. This is even if you moved 1 mile! How is that possible? My cell phone is 5 yrs old and takes 30 seconds to find a signal once I turn it on. So you have to have the car and the machine on for about 5 minutes before it will start to give you directions. Unless you are going on a long trip or use it every time you drive, this often makes it more trouble than it’s worth. Plus, after 5 minutes, you have to pull over to tell it where you want to go, the place you are probably half way to already.
Next, navigating the menu is much less intuitive than the Garmin. I still can’t find a way, if there is one, to view an overall map of the planned route. Even the way it gives directions is not as helpful as the Garmin. In the city, you may be 4 blocks away from your turn. It will say “approaching left turn in 0. 4 miles”. Then the machine will not say anything else until it beeps when you are right at the intersection.
If you’ve never had a GPS, this machine might seem like a fun toy or tool.
Next time, try a Garmin, and you’ll realize what you’ve been missing.

I have several GPS as we have several cars and I hate to constantly take out of one car and put in next. This is a great machine. I love the talking advantage over the others, it helps to know when and exactly where you are turning. This little machine does it all. It s great. If you want to get somewhere and get there fast and without difficulty and around the town one or more times this is the machine for you.

I was sooo hyped up about getting a new GPS since my old one was destroyed by someone i lent it to. (which reminds me, NEVER LEND YOUR GPS TO ANYONE! Friend or not, even if they say they’ll take the best care of it. IT WILL GET RUINED, i’ve seen it so many times)
A little off topic there but anyway, I bought this GPS after playing with a floor model in Best Buy and decided to purchase one. (I gave this product an extra star because of the nice features i saw in the floor model). When I got home I took the GPS out of the box and turned it on and planned on fiddling with all the features when. . . . wait. . . something was wrong. On the map viewer it displayed “acquiring sattelite. . . ” on the top,FOR AN HOUR!!! There was no freakin’ signal, I even drove around town to see if it would pick up anything.
I called tech support and they talk to you as if your an idiot. “Here’s what you do” they said. “Turn and hold the power switch” oooooh, as if i dont know how to turn off a GPS! What’s next, i wonder? “Now turn the switch again to power it on. ” OH, now we’re cookin’! “Do you see a difference?” they asked. hmmm. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . NOOOOO! Then they offer me to send it to them in order for them to send me a refurbished one (and not only that they said they wouldn’t be able to process anything 4 days from now). WHAT?!!! I just forked out $170 and you’re going to tell me i wont even get a brand new one, just another crap GPS that was sent back then “allegedly” fixed?! Wow, nice job guys you just really lowered the bar for yourselves. I was such a big magellan fan.
